Behind the Music: Debop
Debop is founded on the belief that the right song can change your day, and the right day can change your life. It was created by Deb Oh, who has built her life in and around music: as a musician, songwriter, music supervisor and producer in advertising, and now as the founder of Debop.
In 2015, Deb noticed a growing need among her friends for a more meaningful music discovery experience - something that felt increasingly more difficult to attain with The Algorithm’s increasing influence and grip on music consumption.
So she developed an in-depth questionnaire, and began crafting individual playlists paired with personalized liner notes that gave context to each song. When she saw the genuine connection these playlist experiences sparked in her friends, she realized there may be others in search of a similar antidote - and in 2018, Debop was officially launched.
Since then, Debop has enlisted the expertise of other talented curators as it branches into its next chapter, still working to create meaningful listening experiences one playlist at a time.
